MOTUL BUCKET / AIR FILTER WASH KIT

Sale price$110.42 AUDRegular price $129.90 AUD

Air filter maintenance protects engine performance directly. A clogged foam filter restricts airflow and can lean out the fuel mixture, so regular cleaning with a dedicated kit keeps the intake breathing properly. Motul wash kits strip embedded oil and dust from foam media without damaging the cell structure.

Match the cleaning method to the job

Different surfaces demand different methods. Foam air filters need a solvent wash plus re-oiling, while painted bodywork wants a pH-neutral wash that lifts dirt without stripping wax. Use the table below to plan your routine.

Task Method Frequency Dry time
Foam air filter Solvent wash plus re-oil Every 1 to 3 rides off-road 20 to 30 min
Bodywork wash pH-neutral foam, soft mitt Weekly 10 min air dry
Chain degrease Degreaser plus brush Every 500 to 800 km 15 min before lube

Get the technique right

Work on cool surfaces only. Never wash an engine above 40C, as rapid cooling can crack components. Rinse foam filters until water runs clear, then squeeze out 100% of solvent before re-oiling. Keep wash water below 30C to protect seals, use 2 buckets to avoid grinding grit back onto paint, and allow at least 30 minutes drying before re-oiling a filter. A clean filter can recover up to 5% of lost airflow on a heavily fouled element, and a 15 minute weekly wash routine extends finish life across thousands of kilometres.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I clean my motorcycle air filter?

Foam air filters need cleaning every 1 to 3 rides in dusty or off-road conditions, and at least every service interval on the road. A Motul air filter wash kit strips embedded oil and dust so airflow stays at full capacity.

Can I reuse the wash solution in a bucket kit?

No. Once the solvent is loaded with grit and old filter oil it loses cleaning power and can redeposit dirt. Use fresh solution each time and rinse foam media until the water runs clear before drying.

How long should an air filter dry before re-oiling?

Allow at least 20 to 30 minutes of air drying so all wash solvent evaporates. Re-oiling a damp filter traps moisture and reduces sealing, so make sure the foam is fully dry first.
