Designed for riders by riders

Shark Leathers coasters are genuine leather drink mats made by the same crew that builds our motorcycle gear. Each set protects timber surfaces from rings, heat and moisture, ages into a richer patina over time, and brings real leather craft to your desk, bar or workshop bench. Built to last, not to bin.

Genuine leather coasters outlast pressed cork and silicone in daily use. Real hide develops a patina instead of cracking, absorbs condensation without warping, and holds its shape after years on a desk or bar. Shark Leathers cuts and finishes these coasters with the same hide we use on riding gear, where leather garments are tested to EN 17092 AAA abrasion ratings and armour meets CE Level 1 and CE Level 2 impact standards. The same material discipline carries straight into the homeware.

Material Heat tolerance Patina over time Typical lifespan
Genuine leather High, resists short hot-cup contact Yes, ages to richer tone 10+ years with care
Cork Moderate, scorches near 200C No, crumbles at edges 2 to 3 years
Silicone High, stable to 230C No, stays flat and plain 5 years, holds odour

Choose leather when you want a surface guard that improves with age. Leather thickness in the 2mm to 4mm range gives enough body to sit flat under a full glass without curling, while the natural grain on the top face stops a wet base sliding 100% of the time. Round off any sharp edges with a light buff if needed. The grading principle is the same one applied to our EN 17092 rated jackets, where AAA hide must hold structure under load.

Care is simple. Wipe spills within 60 seconds, keep the set out of direct sun above 40C, and condition the hide twice a year to hold moisture in the fibres. Done right, a leather coaster set survives years of cup placements where cork fails inside 24 months. That is the difference between a throwaway and a piece of kit you keep.

Frequently asked questions

Are Shark Leathers coasters made from real leather?

Yes. These are genuine leather coasters cut and finished by the same team that builds our motorcycle gear, so the same hide standards apply. Real leather ages into a patina rather than cracking like cork.

Why choose leather over cork or silicone coasters?

Leather develops a richer patina with age, absorbs condensation without warping, and holds its shape for years. Cork crumbles at the edges and silicone stays flat and plain while holding odour over time.

How do I care for leather coasters?

Wipe spills within about a minute, keep the set out of harsh direct sun above 40C, and condition the hide roughly twice a year. Treated this way a leather set lasts well over ten years where cork fails inside two.
