Motorcycle Shop Gold Coast | Shark Leathers Helensvale
This is the actual shop. Not a warehouse, not a shipping address, not a depot you can't enter. Walk into 6/142 Siganto Drive, Helensvale and you're standing in front of the helmet wall, the Cardo display, and the leather-cut bench where Matthew measures riders for FIM-approved race suits. Open Mon to Thu 9 to 5, Fri 9 to 7:30, Sat 9 to 3, Sun 10 to 2. Phone +61 7 5573 5118 if you want a hand held aside.
Why come in
Three reasons we sell more gear in person than we ever could online. First, armour fit. A jacket can list "CE Level 2 back protector" on the tag, but if the pad sits two fingers below your spine when you tuck for a corner, it's protecting the seat more than you. We make you put it on, lean forward, and tell us where it lands.
Second, helmets. Sizing charts lie. Head shapes differ. An AGV that fits one rider's round oval will hot-spot another rider's intermediate oval inside ten kays. We sit you down, sweep the cheek pads, check pressure points, and watch you wear it for fifteen minutes before you decide. Same drill for Bell, LS2, Simpson, Kabuto, Airoh and Nitro. Every lid we sell is AS/NZS 1698 stamped.
Third, custom race suits. Matthew started Shark Leathers after a crash at 19 left him quadriplegic. The Shark Custom programme is Australia's first FIM-approved manufacturing line, and the measurement appointment runs about an hour. Forty-plus body points, leather grade, panel layout, padding spec. You walk out with a suit cut for you, not for a generic L.
What's on the floor
The Shark Leathers own brand sits at the front. Phantom hoodie with Kevlar lining, Shark Kevlar jeans in straight and slim cuts, Shark gloves, and the leather jackets we cut and sew under our own name. Behind that, the third-party wall covers jackets from DriRider, Rjays, Merlin, Five, Oxford, Macna, Difi, RST and Richa.
The helmet wall runs full-face, modular, open-face and adventure across every size we can shelve. Boots from TCX, Falco, Merlin, Oxford and Leatt sit by the fitting bench so you can try them with the pants you're considering. Gloves are stacked by size and by use case (track, touring, summer mesh, winter waterproof). The Cardo and SCS intercom bench is fully wired so you can hear how they actually sound before you commit.
Local riding
The hinterland twisties decide what we stock. Tamborine Mountain on a Sunday morning, the Springbrook climb when the road's still cold, Numinbah Valley with the eucalypt shade on the apex, the Mount Glorious run when you've already done two coffees. The gear we sell gets ridden on those roads by us and by every staff member who clocks in. If a textile jacket can't handle a 33-degree humid day on the Coomera back roads, it doesn't make the floor. If a glove rotates on the bar through the Springbrook hairpins, it goes back to the rep.
The road doesn't warn you. One moment you're carving a clean line through Numinbah, and the next you're hitting a damp shadow patch under the canopy or a loose bit of gravel a council truck dropped on Friday. Gear that's right for those roads is the gear we keep stocked.
Frequently asked questions
Can I try gear on before I buy?
Yes. That's the whole point of the shop. Bring the boots you ride in, the bike pants you wear, even the lid you're replacing. Half an hour in the change room beats a week of returns by post.
Do you do custom race suit fittings?
Yes. Shark Custom race suits are FIM-approved and built here in Australia. Book the appointment by phone on +61 7 5573 5118. Allow about an hour for measurement. Lead time depends on the queue, we'll quote it on the day.
What if I'm coming from Brisbane?
You're an hour down the M1. Plenty of riders make the trip on a Saturday morning, knock over a fitting, and ride home in the new gear. We hold appointments if you want a guaranteed staff member on the floor.
Do you fit intercoms in-store?
Yes. Cardo, SCS and LS2 units get fitted to your lid at the bench. Bring the helmet (or buy one off the wall). Standard fits take 20 to 30 minutes. We tune the speakers for ear placement before you leave.
Can I bring my own helmet to fit a Cardo?
Bring it in. We'll check the Cardo model is compatible, fit the speakers to the right pocket depth, sit the boom mic where it actually picks up your voice and not your jacket collar, and pair it to your phone before you go.
