A Bitubo steering damper reduces unwanted handlebar movement under hard acceleration, at high speed and over uneven surfaces, so the front stays settled when the bike gets light. Bike-specific SSW kits include the damper and the mounting hardware for your model; universal dampers and fork clamps are here too for custom installs.
Mounting styles
| Kit | Where it mounts | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| KITT | Over the fuel tank | Adjuster within easy reach on top of the bike |
| KITC | Under the instruments | Tucked away under the dash for a cleaner look |
| Side mounted | Along the frame beside the steering head | Useful where the top position is crowded |
| Original OEM position | Replaces the factory damper | For bikes fitted with a damper from new |
| Racing (no instruments) | Top clamp on race-prepped bikes | For race bikes with the dash removed |
Kits, dampers and clamps
A full SSW kit includes the damper and the brackets for your bike. If you're building a custom setup, choose a universal damper by body length and stroke, then add Bitubo fork clamps in your fork tube diameter (39 mm to 58 mm). Red and black finishes are available.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a steering damper?
If your bike shakes its head when the front goes light, under hard acceleration or over bumps at speed, a damper makes it calmer and safer. Many riders of powerful sportbikes and nakeds fit one as standard.
Does a steering damper make the steering heavy?
Bitubo dampers are adjustable, so you can set them light for town and firmer for fast or track riding. Damping only resists quick movements, so normal steering inputs feel much the same.
Which kit do I need?
Pick the kit listed for your bike in the Compatible motorcycles table, then choose the mounting style and colour you prefer. Universal dampers need fork clamps in your fork tube diameter.
