Designed for riders by riders

Modular helmets give you a flip-up chinbar that locks shut like a full face and lifts open at the lights. This range covers AGV, LS2, Nitro and Bell, including carbon-shell builds, internal drop-down sun visors and Bluetooth-ready cutouts. Pick a touring lid that talks, drinks and breathes without coming off.

How to choose a modular helmet

A modular helmet is the most practical road lid for touring and commuting. The chinbar pivots up so you can talk, drink and refuel with the helmet on, then clicks back down to a full-face seal. Choose your shell material first, then check homologation and Bluetooth fitment.

Homologation and fitment

Look for the dual P/J rating. P means the chinbar passed the full chin-impact test closed, J means it is legal open, so a P/J modular is certified to ride both ways. ECE 22.06 testing adds rotational and oblique impacts over the older 22.05 standard. A correct fit sits snug with no pressure points; measure your head 25 mm above the brow and match it to the size chart. Most shells run 53 cm XS through 63 cm XXL. Internal sun visors drop in under one second, and a Pinlock 70 insert kills fog down to single-digit temperatures. Plan ahead for a Bluetooth intercom; AGV, LS2, Nitro and Bell shells leave speaker pockets around 40 mm deep.

Match the lid to the rest of your kit. Pair a modular with road jackets rated for abrasion and a set of gauntlet gloves.

Frequently asked questions

What does a P/J rating mean on a modular helmet?

P/J is a dual homologation. P certifies the chinbar passed the full chin-impact test in the closed position, and J certifies the helmet is legal to ride with the chinbar open. A P/J modular from AGV, LS2, Nitro or Bell is approved both shut and flipped up.

Are modular helmets as safe as full face helmets?

A modular rated P under ECE 22.06 passes the same chin-impact test as a full face when closed. The hinge adds a little weight, usually 100 to 200 g, but the protection closed is comparable. Always ride with the chinbar latched shut on the open road.

Can I fit a Bluetooth intercom to these modular helmets?

Yes. The AGV, LS2, Nitro and Bell modular shells include recessed speaker pockets around 40 mm deep and channels for the boom mic and wiring, so a standard road intercom fits without modifying the shell.
